Annapurna Base Camp

Annapurna Base Camp is a world-famous destination and one of the most popular treks in Nepal. Mount Annapurna at 8,091meters is the 10th highest mountain in the world. The Annapurna region is in the North-central part of Nepal contiguous with Lamjung Himal and flanked by the huge Kali Gandaki River to the west and the equally large the Marshyangdi River to the east. The trek to Annapurna Base Camp passes through waterfalls, villages, farmlands, rhododendron forests providing natural vistas of profound beauty. The trek begins at a mere 800 meters slowly ascending to 4,130 meters at the Base Camp itself so acclimatization is gradual and the altitude difference is quite literally mountainous!

We begin in Pokhara, Nepal’s second largest city and strike out to Naya Pul by motor road. We begin the trek to Ghandruk, home to a fascinating museum devoted to Gurung culture, the local people of this region. Trekking from Ghandruk we have the opportunity to marvel at colorful orchids (season permitting) and clear views of two eight thousand meter peaks, Annapurna and Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters). Take it from us, the view of two 8,000 meter peaks from a mere 800 meters is simply jaw-dropping.

Different Treks, different levels of difficulties, you chose!

The 11 day Annapurna Base Camp Trek is designed for trekkers with limited schedules who want to pack as much as possible into a brief amount of time. For those with more time to spend, the Annapurna Sanctuary Trek expands to 16 days and includes more to see and do. Two variations on these treks can be accomplished in nine days: the Annapurna Sunrise Trek, and the so-called Royal Trek, so named because it was designed for HRH Prince Charles of Great Britain. A more challenging variation expands to 21 days and includes traversing Thorong La, which at 5,416 meters (17,769 ft) is a mountain pass of unparalleled grandeur. You will walk on land higher than many airplanes in the rest of the world!
